Electron Donor Solution - Quick Release (EDS-QRâ„¢)

EDS-QR is a fast-acting, completely soluble amendment formulated with >98% natural seed oils engineered for enhanced reductive dechlorination of chlorinated solvents or any other anaerobically degradable substance. EDS-QR is an ideal choice for projects that are on a fast track. One injection will typically enhance biological activity for 2 to 3 months. EDS-QR is not affected by freezing temperatures.

What is EDS-QR?

The Product

EDS-QR is a fast-acting water-soluble electron donor formulated with >98% natural seed oils. EDS-QR is provided as water mixable electron donor.

Purpose

EDS-QR is a simple, safe, low-cost solution for the bioremediation of halogenated compounds (e.g., PCE, TCE, DCE, VC, TCA, CT, etc.), perchlorate, explosives such as aromatic nitrates, energetic munitions residuals, nitrates, acids, radionuclides, select oxidized heavy metals, and other contaminants for projects that are on a fast track.

Configuration

EDS-QR applications are easily configured and tailored to meet site-specific conditions. Configurations include applications in grids, barriers and excavations. Because of its low viscosity, EDS-QR can be applied to the subsurface with direct-push injection, hollow-stem auger, existing wells or re-injection wells.

Benefits

  • Completely soluble amendment which minimizes the number of injection points for low permeability structures, reducing overall capital costs
  • A simple, safe, low-cost solution for the bioremediation of halogenated straight-chain and aromatic hydrocarbons, perchlorate, explosives such as aromatic nitrates, energetic munitions residuals, nitrates, acids, radionuclides, oxidized metals, and other contaminants
  • Conforms to EPA's EPP (Environmentally Preferable Purchasing) and USDA biobased criteria
  • Made from renewable USA-grown crop-based oils
  • Easily mixes with water for economical application
  • Conforms to EPA's EPP (Environmentally Preferable Purchasing) and USDA biobased criteria
  • No freeze thaw issues

Offers Cost Savings

Our EDS-QR technology has the potential to offer significant cost savings to the groundwater remediation industry. The passive nature of EDS-QR eliminates the large capital and operations/maintenance costs associated with active engineered systems. EDS-QR offers a faster and lower cost alternative to drawn out natural attenuation approach.

Longevitiy

A single EDS-QR application provides a controlled release of electron donors for periods of up to 2 to 3 months.

Applications

Because of its low viscosity, EDS-QR is an ideal substrate for injection using injection wells for source area, plume and reactive barrier applications. The low viscosity allows a greater volume of EDS-QR to be applied in a shorter period and increases the substrate delivery radius per point. The result is fewer injection points and overall shorter delivery time requirements per site. EDS-QR is also ideal for injection into the subsurface through injection wells or used in soil mixing and excavation projects.

Gas inFusion & In-situ Remedition

The treatment of contaminants with EDS-QR is further enhanced with the addition of hydrogen-enriched water, cometabolic gas enriched water, or carbon dioxide (CO2) supersaturated water. The addition of hydrogen-enriched water may reduce electron donor demand over the life of the project by as much as 50% thereby more than offsetting the cost of the gas inFusion technology and its application. The dissolved gas enriched water is added to EDS-QR as a dilution fluid, used as chase water, recirculation water, or as precondition waters for bioaugmentation culture.
